Carrión de los Condes is located in the middle of the French route to Santiago de Compostela. A route that began to become popular in the 10th century. In addition to prestige, it brought economic, cultural and ideological wealth to the town. Especially during the 12th century, when the construction of numerous temples and hospitals began so that locals, foreigners and pilgrims were welcomed. Carrión was back then, part of the kingdom of León, and the lords of the town, the Banu Gómez, struggle to remain faithful to the Leonese kingdom, against Castilians and Muslims.
